Fighting against the government is never good. Just ask Microsoft. Even if you win eventually, but in the mean time having a cloud hanging causes uncertainty. And Wall Street never likes uncertainty.

I am bullish on Google as a company and have make good profit from it. But the legal tangle made me closed my GOOG exposure until the air is clear.

There are numerous goods stock to invest right now.

By refusing to release the information, GOOG is clearly defending its proprietary information from competitors.

But it is also perceived as defending individual's privacy rights. This may help deflect any perception of GOOG as "big brother" back towards the government.

GOOG could come out of this as a defender of individual rights, even if ultimately it is forced to comply. Just the opposite of what happened in China.

Except in this instance, GOOG may gain a PR advantage over its competitors YHOO & MSN who agreed to give up the information.1
