I think the barriers to entry are very high because google is omnipresent and their algorithm is great and I use their search probably 30 times a day. I can almost always rely on them, even if its just trying to recall lines from a poem.

As to lawsuits and MSFT, GOOG is upholding privacy in a country where the administration has lied their way into a very expensive war and wants to invade privacy. If GOOG says yes pretty soon the government will be using GOOG to spy on private citizens. This is not about GOOG putting other businesses out of business or using their muscle to create a monopoly. Its GOOG standing up for the freedom this country was founded on which is in tatters with the current administration. GOOG knows if they say yes to the excuse of "want to see if we're stopping child porn" then the precedent is set and the govt can use them whenever they want.

And in fact, the govt wanting GOOG's information is just proof of how omnipresent GOOG has become in everyday life.
