We are headed into a very dark age if anything approaching peak oil estimates are true. SA, before the nasty spike in oil since Iraq, was having serious financial problems. I've never understood what is wrong with that country but it seems to be headed for bankruptcy or, say, civil war and overthrow or some other political strife. If humans could cooperate on these problems instead of fight over them, we might just solve them. As it is, I think the outlook is pretty dang ugly and that ugly outlook is really close at hand. Just my cheerful two cents. :)
