So that was Bush - the non-multitasker's mistake - he tried to do two things at once - eat AND watch TV. Let's try to recreate this: He was eating, saw a great play, forgot he was eating, inhaled the pretzel because he was going to cheer. He passes out, hits the table...but he ends up with multiple contusions from one fall - cheekbone, lip, side of face....His head could have bounced up and down three times causing those abrasions - OR he bruised his cheek in the fall, a dog bit him on the lip, Laura came in and whacked him on the side of the face.

I believe that in poker or psychological studies this is called a "tell": Bush subconsciously expressed his fear of "loss of face." He has done so repeatedly...
