5 years ago I was recruited to run a large(for here) corporate brokerage). I stuck it ut for 3 1/2 years. Made really good money and learned a lot too. Like how the national franchises are so intent on scamming the agents that work for them! -ng-

I had hired a partially disabled vet and trained him for 3 years. I got him to get his broker license and take over our satellite office. I told him the day he got his broker license i would be fired. He passed the test on a Sat and they fired me on Monday. -vbg-

The corp boss didn't like the fact that I kept sticking up for the agents instead of taking corp's side. Now I am partners with the other broker and we have our own company. Alls well that ends well.

I am leaving the stock brokerage business at the end of the month

Sometimes you just have to move on. Money may have nothing to do with it. Since I threw in the semiconductor biz, I have bumped into several people I have not seen in 20 plus yrs (all over the country, chances of seeing them... trillions to one. Several times one did not recognise the other but some mannerism or the voice made recognition) All of them earning less but much happier.

So, anyway, this recent stock market drop looks to have taken many by surprise. Do we see continued weakness next week from margin account sell offs?

I recently being watching poker on TV, just love the game, used to play limited stakes lots in the usa. Didn't understand "Texas Hold Em", but have got the drift now.
Fancy my chances in a limited stake game.

>>>my writing will no longer be restrained<<<

Well, we were getting tired of your uptight, buttoned-up, pinstripe-suit manner [ggg].

I was just about to post how tired I am of the lack of restraint by financial writers when it comes to flinging the dead metaphors around. I respect Stephen Roach, but just read these sentences:

"A likely turn in the liquidity cycle appears to be on a collision course with ever-widening global imbalances. This could well be a lethal combination that triggers the long-awaited capitulation of the American consumer -- heretofore the mainstay of a US-centric world."

So here comes a tsunami of money washing up against a tottering seawall, which somehow turns poisonous ("lethal combination") and pulls some kind of trigger ("BLAM") so that the American consumer raises his hands in the air, except that this consumer was actually a part of the rigging of a sailing ship ("mainstay")?

It gets worse, but that is enough.

I will not spend as much time as I did before I took a job, as poker will be my job.

I cannot begin to count the number of ways that statement is just WRONG!

But I love it!

Bottom line - there is no future for commission-based retail brokerage. None. And as soon as we can get the SEC out of the SIA's very deep pocket, transparency will kill what is left.

Mike, I didn't notice the duct tape was coming off until checking out a few less active forums today... guess it's not quite off yet. I wished you luck when you went "in" and I wish you best of luck now that you are getting "out." I daresay, it will be easier to decipher a few of your comments when you aren't in a Harry Houdini jacket.

Good luck, Mike.

I am looking forward to your "freer" posts on SI. Will they as expansive as they once were or will it still be the short & quick variety?
