But the character and morals of the people quick trivia - which of the founding fathers said our constitution would only work to govern a just and moral people? Not a bunch of burned out meth heads and greedy self centered capitalists that will cut anyone for a dollar - like a ferengi!

That's a subject for the pulpit. Economics can't answer questions of a spiritual or moral nature. If character and morals have decayed they have done it under conditions where people's material well being has improved. This is not coincidental, wealth brings misery with it.
