You are correct. The Christians of Lebanon along with the jews and the Druse were very tolerant of each other. The resulting calm helped the area to prosper. It was probably the different strengths each brought to the community that helped propel Beirut to prosperity. A friend who was a Marine in Beirut tells me it was a beautiful place. Today it remains a badly decaying war zone filled with remnants of prior success.
