Interesting observation. Then explain to me why the Iraqi war was necessary for the survival or territorial integrity of this nation?

That response doesn't make a lot of sense. I say "a war does not have to be necessary for the survival or territorial integrity of a nation, in order for it to not be evil." How does that equate with arguing that the war in Iraq is or was necessary for the survival or territorial integrity of this nation? If anything it implies that it is not necessary for our nations survival. If it helps I'll explicitly state that I have no reason to think the war in Iraq is "necessary" by that definition.

Then the war is senseless.

"You are assuming the war will be a failure. I do not make this assumption. Even if it did fail it wouldn't make the war evil, although it would make it a mistake, perhaps a quite severe one. "

The war has been a failure almost from day one.

There is probably nothing to be gained by going around that circle. In 10 or 20 years we can look back at the long term effect of the war.

I don't have to wait 20-30 years. The evidence is in.

And that reflects what is happening in the general society. I don't think there has been any other time this nation has been become more divided other than since the 1850s and that ended in civil war.

I don't know about that. Vietnam probably divided the country even more. Also you have the civil rights movement (and the resistance to it) and Watergate and such in the 60s and 70s.

I think the schism back then was between the relatively young and the old. This is one is different.......it cuts right through every age group and every economic group. The right is challenging every precept we have. They are making every effort to promote their ideology on all levels of our society. You have no idea the level of resentment felt by those who do not agree.
