I agree. We'd reduced the number of nuclear weapons in the world by HALF. The cold war was over. Even communist countries were adopting capitalism, and their people were prospering, with no war needed!

I only hope that Bush is an aberration, not a trend. I suspect that he KNOWS he didn't do enough to prevent 9/11 - he's almost certainly sitting on some facts that we don't know. I think everything since has been his wild, guilt-driven overreaction. Psycho-historians will be writing books about Bush for a LONG time.

Well, put in those terms, it's easier to agree. I think Bush may be an idealist, but Cheney certainly isn't. It seems mostly what the two are interested in is enriching their friends.
