Oh, yeah, I forgot one in Mexico: My wife broke her foot in Chetumal, the city on the border with Belize. She went into a private clinic. It was fairly late in the evening and only one doc was there. She examined her and said it was only a sprained ankle. I saw the list of docs on the wall and noticed the one she was seeing was an ophthomologist. What's an OPTHOMOLOGIST doing diagnosing sprains and/or broken bones? Also, the doc took no X-rays. How do you tell there is no break without an X-ray? After she came out of the examining room, I told her we would head for Cancun the next day because they far more American tourists and doctors and equipment there. Including doctors that spoke English. We found an orthopedic surgeon who spoke English and saw him. He took an X-ray and saw the break. He splinted her foot (casts aren't much use on feet) and told her to stay off it for about 10 days. We parked in a Sheraton while she recovered; might as well be comfortable since we couldn't do anything. They had good cable, good rooms, a pool, handicapped parking, room service, and a helpful staff. She wasn't actually completely healed at the end os 10 days, but could get about with a cane. She provided inspiration to lazy gringos and Mexicanos at Coba ans Chichen Itxa who weren't going to cimb the pyramids there. They were standing at the bottom looking up- -and see this little ols ladt head up on a CANE! "BY GOD, IF SHE CAN DO IT, I CAN!" And up they come. Canada? Might freeze to death. Or get frostbite. Other than that, the doces and medicines are no riskier than the US.
