Good quality isn't necessarily customer-hostile.

Never said that. But under the guise of "certification," BREW gives carriers the right to dictate what's "good" for their customers.

My point is this... if I want to install OperaMini on my J2ME phone, no one can stop me. If I want to install it on a BREW phone, no one will let me.

I may be wrong, and all non-BREW phones will eventually evaporate in a mushroom cloud of viruses, but I would hope that some enterprising company (my wife works for Symantec), will resolve that problem. Maybe they won't bother releasing a Brew version :)
