Israel is claimed to have a couple of 100 nukes. They never needed to do any testing.

No, the same ones that gave us information about Natans and Bushehr that turned out to be true and directly lead to the U.N.'s IEAE getting involved in all these inspections of Iranian facilities. You don't read much, do you?

Who said Iran won't test the bomb? You bet they'll test it. If they test it, what will happen? Oil will go through the roof, making them richer than ever. They may get sanctions imposed, but who cares. They can outlast anything the U.N. puts together, because they have friends in Russia and China. Also, remember Pakistan and India? They tested their nukes and there were no consequences that had lasting effects.

One of two things is going to happen in the next few years. Either 1) Iran gets nukes and they suffer no consequences and eventually those nukes make there way into the hands of terrorists who manage to set one off in or near the US (a blast outside our shipping lanes in California could cripple the US economy and cause a tsunami to hit or 2) the US or Israel takes out all of Iran's nuke facilities, which leads to some long term skirmishing with Iran, which we could take care of by bombing the hell out of them with our airforce like we did during pre-war Iraq. Which scenario do you prefer?

So a Fat Man type bomb, deliverable on a truck or ship and that sets off radiation detectors for long distances.

I don't think the distance would be too long. Esp. if it is encased in dense material like lead or tungsten or even a sufficient amount of water or oil (which could easily be done in a ship).

Of course if it explodes the radiation will be easily detectable but than it is a bit late. Also the radiation would be detectable at the assembly site but if your there while it is being assembled you can probably just see what is happening.
