Well, not a total Luddite, I'm not off the grid. As long as I can buy electric power for a reasonable price. I'll be online!
I have a small wood lot, and a couple miles of fence line. Trim and manage the trees. Let the nice ones grow, for another generation to harvest. Pick up old pallets, scrap wood, whatever, whenever, wherever.
Live in a century+ farm house. Added 2 feet of fiberglass insulation to the attic, cover the windows with plastic in the fall. At -25f I have to add wood to the stove every 5 hours to maintain an indoor temp of 65.
In the summer, garden. I harvest about 600-700 lbs. of potatoes every fall. Enough that I've been using my own seed potatoes for over 15 years. We freeze the tomatoes whenever they are fully ripe. Last batch of green ones ripen indoors, after the first frost. When the wood stove is going in the fall, we rinse them in cold water. The skin slides right off, and stew them with garlic, and onions. Back in the freezer, they are ready for any kind of sauce.
Just the start of a long story. You'll get bored with me!
Love the thread, gNite to all.
