After reading Vise's book I don't beleive this anymore.
The hardware infrastructure Google has put in place has actually created a barrier to entry of sorts.

Of course it is, but if you remember, this was the argument myself, Hardly and some others on this thread were making against the "Microsoft is going to kill google" argument 18 mos ago. Hardly mentioned that in order for msft to take on Google they would have to run their server farm on windows.... which kills any attempt they have at this market right there.

The point is, this thread is right ahead of many pundits and analysts on GOOG. A lot of "tech stock watchers" left the business after the bust and the tech stock coverage isn't what it used to be. Some really obvious things like this are missed by the masses.

Another area where the analysts missed lately was the 80/20 partner breakdown. We've known that on this thread, like, FOREVER. Just a month ago the WSJ uncovered it like this was some kind of secret sauce. I know some analysts were unaware of the partner breakdown just based on Lauren Rich Fine's call that the AOL loss of business would result in a 5% hit to GOOGs bottom line (way off if you know that only 20% of AOL flowed through to GOOG). Anyway we are on top of this company on this thread imho. Too bad Paul left though.
