Right, not a general trend - just short term fluctuations - but people don't want to give you any credit for holding back and waiting to see a longer term trend - but I do - kudos to you!

USTR to Ask Congress to Pass More Free Trade Agreements

The top U.S. trade negotiator said today he hopes Congress will pass "several" free-trade agreements this year, including an agreement with Oman that was signed yesterday.

U.S. Trade Representative Rob Portman told reporters today he would ask Congress to deal with the pact with Oman and an agreement with Peru this year. Portman said other agreements could follow.

Portman said the administration hopes to take implementing legislation on the Oman pact through committee and floor action in "the early part of this year."

The pact with Oman is part of the Bush administration's effort to secure a Middle East Free Trade Area by 2013. Earlier, Congress endorsed trade deals with Bahrain, Morocco and Jordan. Portman said the next agreement in the region will likely be with the United Arab Emirates.

Portman also said increased trade between the U.S. and Egypt would be good for both countries, but that some political and economic issues must be worked out before talks begin.
