I don't believe in industrial policy imposed from the top down. It always makes things worse. I am fairly sure that I wont be able to convince you since I agree that top-down industrial policies are generally the wrong way to go. I do think think that it should be noted that we dont really pay a market price for oil. The cost to the US of stabilizing the ME for the last 4 decades doesnt show up anywhere in the price of oil. I love free markets too, but sometimes they dont capture the entire picture. Slacker
