The power of the public was to support the laws. Very little happened before the laws. A few nuts and berries places went non-smoking, but it wasn't until regulation that things got a lot better. I hate the legislation of morality, but if you've got statistics to back up the legislation of public health, especially where children are concerned, but also to clean up public spaces, that's the kind of government I like. Let the government keep itself out of bedrooms, and out of what people ingest in their homes because they want to, and let the government do its best to regulate product safety, and consumer safety, and workplace safety- things which I believe in.
