<<For most of my career Smokey did not have a law enforcement arm and did not really need one.>>

At times the US Fish and Wildlife sets up check points on Interstate 80 in South Dakota and invites game wardens and such from states to join the fun. I had a neighbor who was a captain in the Illinois Conservation Police join in several.

My cousin lived next to a Caterpillar worker who was part of a group of 4 who hunted in the West every Fall. Two were suits at Cat and one of the suits owned a motor home that they used. One year they all bagged an elk apiece plus 2 deer each. The suits decided to fly home and let the peons drive the motor home and the bagged game home. The suits also were in a hurry and didn't stop to fill out the free forms to allow a 2nd party to transport their kills.

Yep, got stopped in S.D. Feds took the peons into town where they rented a truck, loaded their game and came home. The other game was confiscated and the motor home owner had to fly out and pay the transport fine to get his wheels back.

I used to think Smokey was just cute. Now I have to worry about getting shot by him?
