Isn't "the state" also "the tax guy"? Jane's plan removes the inheritance tax, but also the step up in basis. Buy "the tax guy" I meant the other tax guy, Jane's tax guy, the feds. Also you would get some additional people who would stop working. I wouldn't pursue this any further until I saw an estimate of the number who would stop working. I think it would be a lot. We'd have to import herds of temporary/illegal workers to do all the jobs that pay less than, perhaps, 35K per year. Either that or raise salaries and prices.
