Lots of parliamentary systems have coalition gov'ts, but the coalition has to have a majority of seats. Otherwise the losers could immediately call for a vote of no confidence and force new elections.

And it it is quite odd to have an unelected appointee select the PM. If I remember correctly, the Dominion gov't has to agree to the governor general appointment though and can ask for his recall by the monarch.
