Look i am no seer but it is clear that hamas has forged a coalition of rejectionists and reformists. That is the new base of its political side. When they achieve power will they make noise about driving israel into the sea. Sure. Can they do it, no? Do they want to lose the reformists who are supporting them? I think not. So this makes for a fluid situation that the US and Israel should capitalize on. Take Hamas off the terror list, temporarily. Work with them where possible on issues of local government. Dont forgive what they have done but dont get in the way of a possible change. And if after all that they do not change, crush them once and for all.
I view iran as a global version of hamas, and perhaps we drove the new fearless leader into a corner. Perhaps we should concentrate on what are mutual interests are like anti wahabism, balance of power with the arabs, etc. And if he rants about israel and the jews and goes after nukes, crush him. But again lets reinvent a bit of diplomacy here. AFter all someone has to calm down the over-aggressive French.
