DJ Donald Trump Proposes Luxury Condo Tower In Philadelphia

.

PHILADELPHIA (AP)--Donald Trump has announced plans for a 45-story luxury condominium along the Delaware River waterfront.

The $190 million Trump Tower Philadelphia project - similar to buildings planned for Las Vegas; Tampa, Fla.; and Chicago - would have at least 250 units. Trump hopes to begin construction this summer with completion planned for mid-2008.

"I'm really excited about this project," Trump said Monday from his office in New York. "It will be the tallest building on the waterfront. It is going to be really beautiful."

Trump said his company was completing the land purchase for the project, which would also include landscaped gardens, a high-end spa, five-star restaurant, wine cellar, health and fitness club, recreation rooms and an outdoor deck.

The building would be five stories higher than the 40-story towers being built nearby at Waterfront Square.

The waterfront has seen a string of multimillion-dollar development proposals between the Benjamin Franklin Bridge and Penn Treaty Park, and three slots-parlor projects are also proposed for that area.

Jeff Moran, a spokesman for Mayor John F. Street, said the city's Licenses & Inspections Department is reviewing a zoning plan for the project. He said the area includes land zoned for buildings of the size Trump is proposing.

"That's what's under examination," he said, "whether or not any variance or modification of design would be needed to comply with existing zoning."

Last month, Trump's casino company, Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc., applied for a gambling license to operate a $350 million slots parlor in the city's Nicetown section.

"It's a great city. I know it well," said the 1968 Wharton School graduate and star of NBC's "The Apprentice."
