in my area cable is going down too often. hope you have a backup cell phone.
oh, i just had FIOS installed. verizon optic. half the development has converted from cable to verizon already. You have minimum 5m transmission, cable buried about three feet down to the curb and perhaps a foot down going to the house. The pc is on a dedicated line vs sharing lines on cable. I am at the end of the line for cable. next year verizon offers tv on optic all hd. goodbye cable. Wonder how comcast is going to compete. Oh, also got free wireless installation and complete installation for pc at no charge. Land lines in house now connected to cable from house to street. Much better connection on house phones now. Prior i had trouble hearing people on house phone. Verizon installing up to 70 homes daily per work crew on FIOS. If you want dsl they are so busy you can never even get through on the phone.

Love to see this competition as a consumer hopefully we get better alternatives at cheaper prices.

As was mentioned, have a backup for power outage. I also recall you mentioned you missed several weeks of posts. Bill mentioned a great book and I just finished reading it. Just a FYI.

Mike, I think the diesel-electric subs are using lead acid batteries. How do they get around the "drawdown" wearout probem that is being mentioned here for electric cars?
