But each group let its own candidate off the hook.

I was attempting to provide an example where the "right wingers" did not let Bush off the hook. They loudly challenged his judgement when he nominated Meiers.

Another example, which supports the writers opinion, is the recent charge by '08 presidential candidate, Mrs. bill clinton, that the republicans are running "a plantation" etc. Obama strongly supported her statement.
