I was merely trying to illustrate, by way of two simple examples, where the liberal faction in this country is more unwilling to admit their guy/woman is wrong on a particular issue than the right wingers are.

A couple of isolated anecdotes tell us nothing. No better than psycho babble.

Whatever the psycho babble, I think that the headline on Centerfield where I found that link is right on. It's as obvious to me as day and night.

"Partisans are Cognitively Defective"

Truer words were never spoken. IMO, of course. <g>

I'd be shocked if that were true, which I very much doubt. It is pretty well known that liberals are less rigid than conservatives, much more willing to accept gray compared to the black and white world view common to the latter group.

There was a much berated study published a couple of years ago looking at conservatives in this regard (Stanford & Beserkly IIRC). No surprises IMO.

Your example of H Meiers, often quoted by conservatives to make this point, is the ultimate strawman. Conservatives disliked Meiers. It has nothing to do with Bush choosing her. If Bush had chosen a real liberal they'ed have been even madder. The fact that he wised up and chose Alito simply proves the point. Conservatives very much wanted a certain outcome in this process, they were unhappy with the first pass, but quite delighted with the final result. Bush was the vehicle for achieving the goal, but he needed a little corrective control to actually get there.
