07:52 DRAMeXchange: DDR2 price momentum continues; NAND flash pricing should head south from late January - Digitimes

Digitimes reports after experiencing a week of flat pricing, mainstream DDR prices all began trending downward again, even as the DDR2 sector continued enjoying its price momentum. The NAND flash market also had varying trends, with 4Gbit and 8Gbit pricing trending upward, while all other segments saw a drop in pricing. Although the spot price of 512Mbit DDR2 533 climbed 8% to exceed US$5 last week, DRAMeXchange expects the contract price increase in the second half of January to be weaker than pricing trends seen in the spot market, as DRAM makers have been locked in long term contracts with PC OEMs since November of 2005. Although spot prices of some density NAND flash chips trended upward last week, DRAMeXchange regards this price surge as only temporary. With NAND flash system makers in China about to take their annual break for the Lunar New Year, memory module houses and traders will begin clearing their stock, and DRAMeXchange believe NAND flash prices will begin dropping from January 23.
