I included it as a possible scenario only to be fair and give Bush the benefit of the doubt. Unlike some people around here, I think the Iranians are very smart people and that Mani Almadi is not simply an aberration. I also realize they are religious fundamentalists but practical ones unlike say a Pat Robertson.......after all, Iranians are not as well off as Americans and can't afford to make a lot of mistakes. So its not surprising that they made some overtures to warm things up between the two countries. Frankly, I have never understood the animosity between Iran and the US. I know that Carter/Reagan supported the Shah who was a tyrant and a caretaker for the Iranian aristocracy. Actually, I just answered my own question. The Iranian aristocracy fled to the US; specifically, to CA. I suspect, much like the Iraeli lobby, they have considerable influence on our gov't's position vis-a-vis Iran. Its too bad.........I don't like Iran's theocracy. However, I can see a time when that too will pass and Iran will become a true democracy. And when it does, it will be a powerhouse and a major leader in the ME. ted
