.

Brazilian IPCA inflation ended 2005 at 5.69% compared with 7.6% in 2004, according to the government the IBGE statistics institute. The 2005 inflation rate came in higher than the country's 5.1% target, though below a margin of tolerance that ranged up to 7%.

The central bank, meanwhile, noted that inflation showed an acceleration in January that urged caution.

"The elevation of inflation at the beginning of 2006, detected in various indicators, has occurred with a greater intensity than originally anticipated," the bank said.

Brazil's IGP-M general price index, which measures wholesale prices, rose 0.82% in mid-January, up from a 0.06% advance in December.

The bank said, however, that recent price increases were due to "momentary factors, of a predominantly seasonal character," that would not necessarily cause contamination in longer time horizons.

Among these, the bank included increases in agricultural prices, including sugar cane-based alcohol used for fuel.

The bank noted that according to its reference scenario, which considered an exchange rate of 2.25 reals per dollar and a Selic rate of 18% annually, its projection for IPCA inflation remained below target for 2006 and 2007.

Brazil's government has set IPCA consumer price inflation targets of 4.5% for both years.

>>Is everyone moving to Vegas to play Texas Holdem with Patron?<<

Please, God, let it be so!<G>

Job growth in Vegas, like Phoenix is heavily dependant on housing and home building. I noticed Goyette discussed that with you (re: Phoenix) yesterday. I'm sure you were "impressed" by the intellect of the Phoenix homebuilding community, as evidenced by the first call (ie, AZ real estate will go up because it must reach Cali valuations....<G>)
