I dont know, was much before my time, but people were far more adventurous and self sustaining in those days then today. As a child, I used to sit at my Great Aunts knee (she lived with us, and she would tell me stories about Custers Last Stand, Spanish American War, etc etc. I learned much of American History straight from the lips of a lady who lived through it.
Incidentally, when the Seminole tribe finally signed a PEACE TREATY with the USA govt. my family and myself were there. We considered it a historic moment. jdn
