Not at all. Perhaps we are furiously agreeing. I'm saying that almost all narratives that compare the somewhat tranquil style of the Clinton confirmation hearings with the raucous one of the Bush II hearings leave out the factor of Clinton's consultative style (which was hardly always a good thing). I read you as arguing that it was not important.

I gather we are both saying it's a factor, perhaps disagreeing on the relative importance. And caught in the trap that these forums always push views apart.

It's a small point. Particularly in light of the very disturbing direction that court is now going. But I didn't wish to see it lost.
