Not sure who's stance you were talking about. Bush's stance was an optimistic one. I personally believe we should immediately cut off all funding to Hamas (without announcing it though) and take a wait and see attitude. If I were leader, I'd keep my mouth shut about Hamas and just watch. If they reach out to us, I'd send an envoy to listen, but I wouldn't form any judgements yet. Hamas may yet surprise us. But I really doubt it. If they persist in terror, then they have no future as a negotiating partner for peace.
