Peter, when Star Trek debuted back in (I believe 1969), I was the only person in our group who could not quite get into it. Everyone I knew loved it, called it "logical." I guess it goes without saying that I have never been to one of the conventions. I have heard they are usually held in Las Vegas. I am all but allergic to Las Vegas.

Mash is indeed a witty, well-scripted show and have watched it intermittently over the years. I am only vaguely aware of Alan Alda's and Mike Farrell's liberal politics. I did not even know the name of the producer. All in all, it's good comedy. Mulling it all over, in retrospect, it probably was particularly politically piercing considering it hit the airways around the end of the Vietnam War. - Holly
