To me it shows that the abortion issue can't be neatly pigeonholed in left-right terms. Same with gun control. In fact, the whole who's left and who's right game is one of the destructive factors at play in American politics. Two-thirds or more of the country is so obsessed with "Are they with us or agin us?" that reaching consensus to implement solutions to our most pressing problems gets lost in the melee. Not to mention that both hardcore conservatives and progressives are inevitably disappointed by those they elect who preach their gospel, when they find that what Washington incumbents really do is often less than noble. The whole left-right debate is bankrupt, in my opinion.
