In the mid-60's, Charles de Gaul took the position that the US should save the resources and tribulations, and simply let Indo China ferment in a communist sewer until the population did something about it themselves. The US took the same attitude toward de Gaul that they had taken since WWII: that he should shut up and mind his own business.

The events since the 60's-especially in Eastern Europe, East Germany, and the USSR-have shown de Gaul to have been right, something he very OFTEN was during his era...
