Actually the day of earnings, given that earnings is reported after the close.

In the month you're referring to, yes, GOOG traded below its all time high, but that's hardly indicative of a bearish trend. A month before earnings, GOOG closed at $307.91. The day of earnings, it closed at $303.20, and the day before that it closed at $308.70. Day before that, $303.28. I think it is more accurate to say that the stock was trendless in the month before earnings.
