Basically, you seem to believe that the right of others to self defense is somehow a sort of "threat" being held over your head if you decide to go berserk.

Not at all.

If the authorities initiate the confrontation they are not really acting in self defense. The force they use, up to an including deadly force, may be fully justified even without strictly being self defense.

I know you consider the law breaker to have initiated the confrontation by breaking the law. I flat out disagree unless the breaking of the law is an attack against someone.
