You are about 180% wrong.

Anyone who cannot differentiate between a social democrat and a communist (entirely ignoring the intervening "socialist" to boot) is bound to have a faulty fulcrum. In order to frame and populate a political continuum, you can't reduce everyone on the other half to "they all look alike." If the other half is reduced on one increment on the continuum, that forces the fulcrum dramatically towards your end. You have to give the increments on both sides the same size chunk of continuum or it gets lopsided.
