Yes, the Jewish leadership and establishment does blur the differences between the two and it's done deliberately, both to keep the Jewish people together and to prevent any criticism from outsiders of Israel, AIPAC etc which is then branded as antisemitism.

Since (a) I don't wish to be involved in any religious or spiritual aspects of Judaism which I believe are personal to the individuals themselves and (b) I do wish to focus on the US and Israeli political systems, and particularly in relation to the various wars/conflicts, I emphasise that my position is specifically concerned with the political aspects, namely Zionism.

In my opinion, "church and state" should be kept well apart.
