Well that depends what you mean.

Stalin, and party leaders, pretended there was no personal wealth- but they availed themselves of the riches of the state, which they simply took- they were not wealthy men in their own right, until they took the largesse of the state. Are you under the impression that Gore and Kerry became wealthy by first nationalizing the property of others, and then looting it?

I would also argue that Stalin was about as far from a true communist as it is possible to be.
