Crimson > So crazy as it may seem many Zionists apparently see Israel as a place where they will be welcome if they are forced out of America someday.

One shouldn't forget that the Jews are actually a nation in exile who, in my opinion, as result of their beliefs, were placed in an invidious position by having to live in countries and amongst people who didn't like them or even want them until, by their supposed good works and pious deeds, the Messiah would come and take them to the Promised Land. Since, after thousands of years and despite their attempts to conform to their Law, the Messiah hadn't come I suppose one must actually sympathize with them, especially after WW2 and the Holocaust. If ever there was a Catch 22, they were in it -- whatever they did was wrong -- even if others were not oppressing or persecuting them, they had keep themselves apart, keep themselves different and punish themselves.

And if one looks at the Israeli predicament their problem hasn't been solved yet -- they can't find peace by making peace and they can't find peace by making war.
