Exactly - when you join a profession, you agree to uphold the tenets and practices of that profession.

If we become a nation where people and agencies at all different levels pick and choose which laws suit them, the result will be chaos.

This is one issue on which I simply cannot find a legitimate "other side." You simply don't enter a profession or a job within that profession if there are aspects of the job you are unwilling to perform.

The problem arises when the professional ethic to which you subscribe runs afoul of state or federal regulations. Or the professional ethic changes and violates your own sense of professional ethics.
