Why can the government not protect us from ourselves, in terms of accidents? Most people do not have a desire to actively engage in accidents, and see the roll of the government in protecting us in this area (especially since it tends to help really limited people, who don't appear to be able to evaluate risks very well) as fairly benign- since most people accidentaly court accidents, and thus benefit from a certain amount of protection.
