The trouble is that the US will not want to get of the Middle East as long as there is lots of oil there. The US and Israel need each other in the Middle East in what is a kind of "symbiotic" relationship. Israel will always need the US for protection, and the US needs Israel to be a good excuse for hanging around to protect the latter. IMHO, there will be no resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian confrontation, and efforts will be made covertly or otherwise to keep it alive. At the end of the day, the real motivation for it all is securing OIL for the US and all that that implies --- survival and hegemony! For sure, the US wants to be #1 for all time!!! .
