After Hamas, Republicans are now throwing democracy in the ME out of the tent this week. They're now hemming and hawing about democracy actually being any good.

Republicans have no real faith in democracy and they have absolutely no love for it either, it was simply a cheap campaign slogan. Republicans have a very simplistic concept of human nature. They expect humans to act solely for the benefit of Republicans and can't understand them when they refuse to do so.

Democracy is a noble goal for regions that have suffered under oppressive and brutal regimes. That, however, does not guarantee that their interests will be compatible with our own; or that they will be able to maintain an uncorrupted system of democracy.
