to a point....if u just weightbear on a damaged cartilage (kind of malleable surface effect) ....you will produce a fibrous cartilage without the aid of blood supply. it *functions* as a cartilage...kind of your bodies own repair mechanism.

Now if all u have is 'bone on bone'...prob a different story.
