Keep dreaming? You must be dreaming if you think the Republicans will win in 2008.

Have you seen Bush's poll numbers lately? Low 40s does not win elections. Chances are the economy won't be so good by 2008 either, with oil prices and interest rates rising.

All the Democrats need is one swing state like OH or MO and they win the White House in O8. Not a terribly hard thing to imagine with Bush polling around 40% in both of those states that he won in 04. Who will run under the Republican banner in 08?

The one thing that might actually make 08 close and interesting is if Hillary is the Democratic nominee. She will bring out the Partisans and make it close. If some moderate Democrat like Warner of VA or Bayh of IN wins the nomination, it won't even be close.

Bush might go up a notch or two in my book if he actually addresses the energy situation tonight forcefully. But, I don't expect much. I know he could put the U.S. on a program to implement plug-in hybrid technology that would cut our oil consumption by 50% or more over ten years. That is what I would call visionary leadership. Bush will just gives us more giveaways to his corporate cronies.
