Zhone Technologies Widens Fourth-Quarter Loss to $107.2M Due to Acquisition-Related Charges

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Network equipment maker Zhone Technologies Inc. reported its fourth-quarter loss widened due to acquisition-related charges.

The company posted a loss of $107.2 million, or 73 cents per share, compared to a loss of $3.8 million, or 4 cents per share, a year earlier. Results included a $102.1 million impairment charge that shaved 69 cents per share off its bottom line.

Revenue rose to $53.2 million from $28.1 million.

For 2005, Zhone reported a loss of $126.9 million, or $1.13 per share, on revenue of $151.8 million, compared with a loss of $35.6 million or 42 cents per share, on $97.2 million revenue for 2004.

Shares closed at $2.30 on the Nasdaq, then gave up 13 cents, or 5.6 percent, to $2.17 in aftermarket electronic trading.
