Syrian opposition holds strategy talks
By Duraid Al Baik, Foreign Editor

Dubai: Syrian opposition leaders have met in Washington during the past two days to draw up a strategy to oust the regime in Damascus, Gulf News has learnt.

Eyas Al Maleh, president of the US-based Syrian National Council and chief organiser of the conference, told Gulf News the meeting decided to set up teams to highlight to world leaders "the need to democratise Syria," a goal the opposition believes might be realised in one year.

"We have discussed the strategy with Damascus Spring prisoners [released last month] and agreed to coordinate to overthrow the regime through peaceful means," he said. The meeting will convene in Canada after three months to coordinate the plan with "Syrian opposition forces worldwide," he added.

Arab League sources meanwhile, told Gulf News the league welcomed contacts with representatives from the Syrian opposition.

In Damascus, ex-MP Riad Seif, who was released with four Damascus Spring activists, was barred from holding a press conference on human rights on Tuesday.

A scuffle followed after security forces prevented Seif from entering the office of the Association for Human Rights and pushed him down to the muddied street.

I sure hope no one on this thread was left holding the bag ...

I lucked out and bought $380 Feb puts for $7 yesterday. Hopefully will be able to unload them today for more than double that.

Nothing like coming home from dinner and a few drinks and placing some bets in the equity options market.

Anyone take a look at GOOG recently?

Yeah, their earnings missed big time. The markets will probably stink tomorrow.
