Hell, it took an event like 9/11 to wake this nation up....

Like it or not, 9/11 was the culmination of pentup anger against the west aroused in fanatical Moslems by western imperialists even from before the collapse of the Ottoman Empire ca. 1920 and going back to the time of the Crusades.

Agreed and why I said this in a previous post...."Did 9/11 have to happen to convince us that we had to at last fight back against a violent religious culture? To this day President Bush states that islam is a culture/religion of peace yet it is that same culture/religion that we the free world are fighting to change.".....

I have always viewed The Iraq war as constructive coercion and like you have just said " But most moderates are, by nature, not easily roused unless they feel they have a chance to succeed against the oppression they are subjected to."

Maybe USA in Iraq will rouse the moderates and have them think they have a chance to succeed.

...."We cannot ignore Islamo-Fascism anymore than we could ignore Nazism and Japan and its Asian "Co-prosperity Sphere"..

True, but IMO this war against islam radicals is even more dangerous and may be much longer than wars against Japan or Nazism. The USA and it's allies are not fighting against another country for territory this time...they are fighting against a religious culture that really cares nothing about a specific country, The enemy this time is in every country and wants only to have their religious culture as law in all lands and they have it appears many crazies in their ranks that actually want to die to further their cause....these people are a lot different than past enemies IMO past enemies for the most part tried to stay alive by killing their enemy..not these crazies though. Japan had suicide bombers as well but even they were fighting for a country...their country...radical islam cares nothing about one country.
