SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) - Technology stocks rose Wednesday as semiconductor shares led a rally on the heels of upbeat views about Altera Corp.

Altera rose 78 cents, or 4%, to $20.82. Before the market opened, Bear Stearns raised its rating on the programmable logic chipmaker to outperform from peer perform. Analyst Gurinder Kalra said there is evidence that Altera has seen better bookings and orders, and the company could raise its revenue outlook during a mid-quarter update on March 6.
